Mới đây, viện quy chuẩn viễn thông châu Âu (ETSI) đã công bố chuẩn nano SIM mới có kích thước nhỏ hơn so với thiết kế micro SIM hiện nay.

Mới đây, viện quy chuẩn viễn thông châu Âu (ETSI) đã công bố chuẩn nano SIM mới có kích thước nhỏ hơn so với thiết kế micro SIM hiện nay. Trước đây Apple, Nokia, RIM, Motorola cùng một số nhà sản xuất khác đã "đấu đá" với nhau để chứng tỏ rằng thiết kế nano SIM của mình là tốt hơn từ đó ETSI có thể chọn kế đó làm tiêu chuẩn. Cuộc chiến về chuẩn thiết kế nano SIM mới được chia làm hai phe rõ rệt với thiết kế của Apple và thiết kế của Motorola và RIM. Vẫn chưa có những thông tin chính thức về việc thiết kế nào được chọn nhưng nhiều khả năng thiết kế nano SIM mới sẽ là của Apple.

Theo đó thì thiết kế này sẽ nhỏ hơn 40% so với micro SIM giúp cho các hãng sản xuất có thêm nhiều không gian bên trong hơn khi sản xuất các thiết bị smartphone. Chuẩn nano-SIM sẽ có kích thước là 12,3 x 8,8 x 0,67 mm và tương thích ngược với những thiết kế thẻ SIM hiện tại.
