Chắc chắn ai cũng từng xem các bộ phim hành động, mà người hùng của chúng ta khi bị những kẻ xấu bắn thì thường nhảy xuống sông và bể bơi để trốn. Trên lý thuyết thì đây là một nước đi thông minh, vì chất lỏng có thể làm giảm tốc độ đạn và giúp chúng ta tìm đến nơi an toàn. Nhưng trên thực tế thì sao? Liệu rằng ta có thể tránh đạn bằng cách lặn xuống nước?
Nước có lực cản tốt hơn không khí khoảng 800 lần, nên nếu như một viên đạn của súng MG-42 rời nòng ở tốc độ 915m/s, thì nó sẽ dừng sau khi đâm xuống nước một khoảng 76cm. Nhưng nếu ta sử dụng những viên đạn nhỏ hơn (súng lục hoặc súng shotgun) thì có thể xuống được tới mức 243cm.
Ta cũng phải tính tới góc bắn: nếu như kẻ xấu bắn súng ở góc nhỏ hơn 30 độ so với bề mặt nước, thì chắc chắn đạn sẽ không đi quá được mức 150cm, dù đạn có nhỏ và đi với tốc độ cao đến mấy. Vậy nếu như ta nhảy xuống nước sau đó lặn sâu hơn 250m (2.5m), thì cơ hội sống sót sẽ lớn hơn rất nhiều so với chạy trên cạn.
Thế nhưng nếu gặp kẻ xấu thông minh, thì hắn sẽ...chạy theo ta trên bờ, chỉ đợi ta hết oxy phải ngoi lên thì sẽ bắn, thì lúc đó chỉ có nước giơ tay xin hàng mà thôi!
