Bộ nhớ hạn chế của MacBook Air và MacBook Pro đôi khi khiến người sử dụng không thoải mái. Để giải quyết vấn đề này, một dự án có tên Nifty MiniDrive vừa được giới thiệu như một giải pháp lưu trữ dự phòng cho laptop của Apple bằng cách tận dụng khe cắm thẻ SD của máy.

Nifty MiniDrive là một adapter nhỏ bằng nhựa với một thẻ microSD có thể gắn vào bất cứ cổng SD full-size nào của MacBook Pro hay MacBook Air. Khác với thẻ SD bình thường sẽ bị dôi ra một đoạn nhỏ khi kết nối với máy tính, Nifty MiniDrive được thiết kế để nằm gọn trong khe. Nifty MiniDrive hỗ trợ thẻ microSD lên tới 2 TB trên lý thuyết, tuy nhiên trên thực tế thì dung lượng loại thẻ này tối đa chỉ có 64 GB. Nifty MiniDrive cũng có thể được tháo ra khỏi máy bằng kẹp giấy. Sản phẩm có nhiều màu sắc khác nhau để lựa chọn.

Những nhà sản xuất thiết bị này đang kêu gọi một quỹ đầu tư trị giá 11.000 USD để có thể khởi động dự án của họ. Mức đóng góp sẽ là từ 25 USD đến 1000 USD. Những người đóng góp sẽ được miễn phí một số adapter Nifty MiniDrive với tùy chọn màu xanh dương và đỏ. Giá bán lẻ của Nifty MiniDrive cũng chưa được công bố nhưng chắn chắn là sẽ rẻ hơn so với việc mua ổ SSD mới và vất vả trong việc nâng cấp bộ nhớ của MacBook Air hay MacBook Pro.
