Mermaid (tên của thiết bị) được chế tạo bởi đội nghiên cứu thuộc trường đại học Y Osaka và đại học Ryukoku, Nhật Bản. Không chỉ đóng vai trò quan trọng trong lĩnh vực y học, Mermaid còn là một minh chứng cho sự tiến bộ của ngành kỹ thuật xứ Phù Tang.
 
Với đường nhỏ hơn nửa ich (tương đương 1,25cm) và độ dài chỉ vào khoảng 2 inch (5,1cm) cùng hệ thống đẩy bằng nam châm, một khi Mermaid "thâm nhập" dạ dày của bạn, nó có thể chụp được 2 bức ảnh mỗi giây, được điều khiển từ xa bởi một cần gạt.
