Về cơ bản, Hologram là phương pháp tái tạo hình ảnh ba chiều (3D) của một vật thực qua một bản ghi phẳng hai chiều (2D). Với một bức ảnh phẳng nhưng nhờ sự bố trí các chi tiết sao cho chúng phản xạ ánh sáng một cách thích hợp rồi nổi lên như một ảnh có chiều sâu (ảnh 3 chiều).

Tiến sỹ Dennis Gabor (ngưòi Anh gốc Hungari) đã phát minh ra kỹ thuật Holography năm 1947 tại Anh. Phát minh này đã gây ra những ảnh hưởng sâu rộng đến rất nhiều mặt của cuộc sống xã hội. Chính vì vậy vào năm 1972, ông đã được trao giải Nobel về Vật lý.

Hiện nay trên thế giới, công nghệ chiếu 3D holographic này được ứng dụng rộng rãi trong các chương trình show quảng cáo, sự kiện thời trang, công nghệ, sân khấu ca nhạc v.v...
