Cứ theo chu trình 12.000 năm thì một siêu núi lửa sẽ phun trào và những tác hại do nó gây ra là điều không thể lường trước được.

Cứ theo lộ trình từ 10 đến 12 ngàn năm sẽ có một núi lửa ở tâm Châu Âu phun trào. Dù là bất cứ vụ phun trào nào thì với hàng tấn mắc ma chắc chắn sẽ tàn phá toàn bộ mọi thứ thành tro bụi kéo dài từ Anh, Đan Mạch tới tận Italy.
 
Đã được 12.900 năm kể từ đợt phun trào cuối cùng. Siêu núi lửa nằm dưới Laacher See – một chiêc hồ nằm trên miệng núi lửa trong dãy núi Eifei, 15 dặm tính từ Koblenz và 30 dặm từ Bonn, thủ đô cũ của Tây Đức.
 

 
Một vài nhà khoa học nói rằng núi lửa có thể bùng phát bất cứ lúc nào mặc dù không hề có một cảnh báo chính thức nào. Những cơn địa chấn đã bắt đầu vào năm 2010 với hoạt động rõ rệt nhất xảy ra vào tháng 2, khi một chuỗi 7 cơn động đất từ 2 đến 4.5 độ richter đã được ghi nhận tại khu vực này. Hồ Laacher đã có những dấu hiệu sủi bọt do lượng khí cacbon dioxide từ mac ma phía dưới hồ gây nên.
 
Có lẽ đó là những dấu hiệu rõ rệt mà Châu Âu cần xem xét để hạn chế khỏi một cuộc khủng hoảng tồi tệ do núi lửa gây nên.
